Grants Awarded

The Con Edison Foundation is committed to helping organizations mitigate the impact of extreme weather and improve resiliency, support disadvantaged communities, and the development of a clean energy workforce.

In 2024, the Con Edison Foundation awarded $600,000 to six organizations across its New York service area for the first round of priority investment in Clean Energy Careers.

The Clean Energy and Technology Careers funding pillar focuses on supporting nonprofit organizations in workforce development. This funding will go directly toward preparing more New Yorkers for well-paying jobs in the emerging and in-demand clean energy and technology fields.

2024 Grant Recipients

Grantee: New York City Employment Center

Awarded for: Climate Action Career Network

Project Description: New York City Employment Center (NYCETC) is a resource for employers seeking to identify and secure New York talent for jobs in the green economy ecosystem. This grant enables NYCETC to build capacity to serve as a Climate Action Career Network, focusing on renewable energy, building decarbonization, and coastal adaptation.

Grantee: NPower NYC

Awarded for: NPower Cybersecurity Tech Training and Job Placement

Project Description: NPower’s Cybersecurity program is tailored to the local job market in NYC with active engagement from local businesses. NYC metro area students learn the skills needed to launch cyber careers, anchored by CYSA+ or Linux+ certifications.

Grantee: Per Scholas

Awarded for: New York Tech Training

Project Description: Per Scholas offers entry- and mid-level courses in AWS re/Start, Cybersecurity, IT Support, and Software Engineering. The program also includes professional development to prepare NYC metro area students with the skills needed to enter or advance in tech. Per Scholas maintains active employer engagement with local businesses.

Grantee: Commonpoint Queens

Awarded for: Green Jobs Construction Training Program

Project Description: Commonpoint partners with Building Skills NY to provide construction training and job placement programs for Queens residents. This vocational training program connects eligible adults and out-of-school youth with construction skills training providers and high-quality green construction jobs. Trainees can also earn industry-recognized credentials, including OSHA-30 certification.

Grantee: Student Conservation Association Inc.

Awarded for: Urban Green Career Exploration and Green Job Pathway: Building the Next Generation

Project Description: The Student Conservation Association (SCA) runs an inclusive workforce development program through their Urban Green initiative, providing paid green jobs to youth interested in climate resiliency and clean energy careers. The organization is also piloting clean energy certification and on-the-job training.

Grantee: The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art

Awarded for: Retraining Program for Immigrant Engineers

Project Description: The Retraining Program for Immigrant Engineers at The Cooper Union equips highly trained immigrant, refugee, and asylum-seeker engineers living at or below the poverty line with necessary technical and cultural soft skills. It also provides professional networking and career development opportunities. Together, these resources prepare participants for competitive careers in New York State’s engineering sectors, including clean energy and technology industries.
